Stephen Zak ’16 ISRP Speaker

The Independent Science Research Program (ISRP) was excited to host Stephen Zak ’16 as a guest speaker. During his visit, Stephen taught students the fundamentals of knee replacement surgeries and discussed his published clinical research paper.

One student commented that “Stephen’s presentation was by far my favorite of the year. He incorporated humor, helpful graphics, and simple explanations that kept the audience engaged. The most interesting thing he said, for me, was the point about statistical difference versus clinical difference. He told us that a statistical difference doesn’t necessarily translate to a big enough difference in clinical settings, as there is an established baseline difference that must be met.”

Another student reflected, “I thought the overall takeaway from his research that surgeries and procedures such as the one he described all have to take into consideration the needs of the patient is very important.”

We wish Stephen the best of luck as he completes his medical degree!

All alumni and families with present or past experiences in scientific research have a standing invitation to visit the Independent Science Research Program. Our future scientists love hearing your stories, and these talks are formative to their careers. If you are interested, please reach out to Dr. Andrew Ying at aying@hackleyschool.org.
