US English Teacher, Coach, and 12th Grade Dean Jenny Leffler Wins 2023 Rice Award

Congratulations to Jenny Leffler, the recipient of this year’s Anton and Lydia Rice Inspirational Teaching Award! The award is presented each year to a member of Hackley’s faculty who, in the estimation of the Senior Class, "has lit and sustained the fire of learning and inspiration, stimulated their intellectual curiosity, and inspired them in positive ways to seize the day and grasp the challenges they will face in the years ahead."

The Rice Award is given in memory of Anton and Lydia Rice, parents of Anton H. Rice III ’56, Donald Sands Rice ’57, William Phipps Rice ’62, and John Reynolds Rice ’64. Anton H. Rice, Jr. served Hackley as a trustee and Lydia Sands Rice was an active member of the Hackley Parents’ Association. The Rice Award winner also serves as the faculty speaker at the year-end Senior Dinner, which will be held on Monday, June 5.

The process involved asking each Senior to nominate two teachers for the award. The Class of 2023 responded by nominating 34 different individuals, a testament to the quality of teaching and depth of relationships forged here on the Hilltop. As a fellow nominee shared about Ms. Leffler, "... as we all know, a supremely deserving recipient."
