Athletes of the Week – Week of May 15

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Girls’ Lacrosse: Lucia Monteleone ’23
Lucia had four goals in the past week, but, more importantly, she is a consistent source of dominance on the attacking end of the field. She creates opportunities for others and helps to cause countless turnovers, allowing the Hornets to get the ball back in our attacking end. She has been integral in our undefeated Ivy League Season and first seed in the NYSAIS tournament.

Boys’ Tennis: David Linnett ’24
David had a thrilling three-set winner in the Ivy Championship to secure the first Boys’ Tennis Ivy title in Hackley’s history. The previous league champions were the 1978 team, and they won a Fairchester League title. David has been dominant in the No. 2 sport for the past two seasons.

Baseball: Aidan Aybar ’23
Aiden has been an instrumental leader for the baseball team, playing multiple positions and serving as the team’s No. 1 pitcher. In the last two games of the season, Aidan had five hits in six at-bats. He will be missed next year.

Softball: Andy Hegarty ’25
In the last three games, Andy has recorded 58 strikeouts out of a possible 63 at-bats. During that time, she recorded the 500th strikeout of her short career thus far on the Hilltop. In addition, she has batted .667 with three home runs and five RBIs in the last three contests.

Track and Field: Michael Abbey ’23
Michael had an outstanding week for the Hornets at the Loucks Games. On Friday afternoon, he put forth a lifetime best in the long jump, improving on his previous mark by more than a foot to jump 22'8.75". This earned him 5th place overall in this prestigious meet. Michael followed that up the next day with a jump of 45'8.75" in the triple jump to earn first place. That is Hackley’s first individual victory at the Loucks Games in a decade, and is currently the No. 4 mark in the state of New York.

Track and Field: Asher Beck ’24
Asher had a fantastic week for the Hackley Track and Field team. At last weekend’s Loucks Games, he ran the 3,200-meter in 9:05.13 on Friday, earning a 5th place finish overall. He followed that up the next day with a mile time of 4:20.64. Both of these performances broke the previous School record in their respective events.
