Hornets Take Big Wins at NYSAIS Championships

Hackley School had an exceptional day at the NYSAIS Championships this week! The Hornets crowned two team champions and three individual champions. We also had runner-up performances for two teams and one individual.

Team Champs
  • Boys’ Lacrosse
The Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team had one of the more memorable wins in years, going down three goals early in the third period to hold Poly Prep scoreless for the majority of the second half, taking the game into overtime. The team rallied at the right time to pull out a 9-8 overtime victory.
  • Girls’ Lacrosse
The contest certainly left fans on their toes as Rye Country Day rallied from a four-point deficit, but the Hornets, in true Hackley fashion, held strong in the final minute to win 10-9. This was a great win, considering the team lost to Rye earlier in the season. A true sign of resilience by the players and coaches.
Individual Champs
  • Boys’ Doubles Tennis
Teddy Roberts ’23 and Alex Chorny ’26 had an exciting Championship match, going down in the first set. The duo rallied back to win the second and third sets 6-3 and 7-6, respectively for the first boys’ doubles title at Hackley.
  • Track and Field
The proud owner of multiple records at Hackley, Asher Beck ’24 continued his winning ways. His time of 4:29.9 secured his spot on top of the podium. With this victory, Asher has declared to run at the New York State Track and Field Championships on June 9 and 10. Michael Abbey ’23 continued to dominate the triple jump, winning NYSAIS with a jump of 42’11.5”. Michael has now won at the Ivy Championship, Loucks, and NYSAIS Championship as a senior.
Notable Accomplishments
  • Boys’ Golf
The Boys’ Golf team took second out of 18 very competitive schools at the NYSAIS Championships in what was a true team effort. Jake Hendelman ’24 took fourth overall with a score of 73 on the par 72 course, and he will be playing Bethpage Black on June 11 in the Federation Championship. Jake also is the first in years to sit in the No. 1 position the entire season and not lose a single match in the Ivy League!
  • Boys Tennis
Ethan Ohm ’23 went to three sets in the NYSAIS singles tennis championship, eventually dropping the match. Ethan has been a dominant force for Hackley tennis.
  • Softball
The Softball team faced Poly in the NYSAIS Championship. It was a very exciting game for both teams, with Poly scoring one run in the fourth and sixth innings for 2-0 victory. The young team has much to be proud of and much to look forward to in the next couple of years.
  • Girls’ Golf
The Girls’ Golf team had a great showing at the inaugural NYSAIS Championships. The girls played well at a very tough Hudson Hills Golf Course, placing 5th overall.
