Hackley Students Earn Scholastic Writing Awards Recognition

Twenty-two Hackley students won 38 individual recognitions at the 2014 H2H Regional Scholastic Writing Awards. A jury panel of professional novelists, editors, teachers, poets, journalists, and other professionals selected their works -- from nearly 1300 submitted this year -- as the most exceptional in the region.
Twenty-two Hackley students won 38 individual recognitions at the 2014 H2H Regional Scholastic Writing Awards. A jury panel of professional novelists, editors, teachers, poets, journalists, and other professionals selected their works -- from nearly 1300 submitted this year -- as the most exceptional in the region.

Among them, Persuasive Writing by tenth grader Karina F. was awarded one of only five American Voices nominations, awarded to the most outstanding Gold Key writing in the region. This award honors what the judges deemed the strongest pieces in the region, regardless of category or age group. One of these five works will be awarded a National American Voices Medal after it goes through national adjudication.

Six Hackley students earned Gold Key recognition: Samhitha J. (8th grade), Joy D. (9th), Hope W. (9th), Karina F (10th, for two entries), Neil S. (10th, for two entries) and Brian S. (10th, for three entries).
Ten students received Silver Key recognition: Hunter F. (8th), George P. (8th, for two entries) Jamie L. (9th), Olivia S. (9th), Alexandra G. (10th), Karina F. (10th, for two entries), Marc R. (10th), Brian S. (10th), Aley L. (12th, for two entries), and Zachary W. (12th).
Thirteen students received Honorable Mention recognition: Alex H. (8th), Ceci P. (8th, for two entries), George P., (8th) Rohan R. (8th), Demetra Y. (8th), Will J. (9th), Olivia S. (9th), Hope W. (9th), Greg C. (10th), Neil S. (10th, for two entries) Brian S. (10th), Amanda C. (12th), and Zhaneque C. (12th).
