At Hackley, we believe our fields and courts are among our most important “classrooms.”
Students begin participating in team sports in the seventh grade as part of the Middle School physical education program. The Middle School experience provides students a new way to explore Hackley’s commitment to “unreserved effort,” teaching skills while emphasizing the value of teamwork, collaboration, mutual respect, and sportsmanship.
In Upper School, students have the option to participate in athletics at the JV and Varsity level during one, two, or three seasons each year. On average, 84% of Hackley Upper School students participate in at least one team sport.

Hackley coaches, many of whom are faculty members, bring a deep understanding of our young men and women to the playing field.
These coaches teach Hackley student-athletes the life lessons of passion, respect, determination, hard work and sportsmanship that linger long after graduation. Hackley coaches care deeply for the welling being our student-athletes, not just as athletes but as well-rounded young adults.
Hackley coaches inspire students to commit themselves fully as individual athletes and as members of a team. We consider our playing fields to be our largest classrooms, and our coaches are also teachers -- 65% of Hackley coaches are faculty or staff, facilitating a deeper understanding of each child and how best to tap into his or her full potential as a student and as an athlete.
Hackley Fall season coaches have had tremendous success thanks in part to the exceptional outdoor facilities at Hackley. Their depth of experience and insight helps all our fall student-athletes maximize their potential, and have great fun along the way.
Hackley winter season coaches bring an exceptional balance of energy and experience. Winter is the longest season but our coaches constantly create new way to keep things challenging and exciting, while advancing individual and team accomplishments.
Hackley spring coaches are bursting with enthusiasm to get outside and compete. Hackley’s fantastic coaches and facilities, which shed the winter elements with great expedience, help get all our student-athletes up to speed and performing at top levels in a very short period of time.
