Across all divisions, Hackley art studios buzz with activity, where student-artists engage in drawing, painting, design, printmaking, sculpture, photography, filmmaking, digital media and architecture. Art is an integral part of a Hackley education, alongside humanities, math, science and athletics.
At the heart of the Visual Arts is perception — teaching students to see, appreciate and engage with the world around them. Hackley’s expansive campus, with its remarkable natural beauty, serves as both inspiration and canvas. Students in all divisions are encouraged to draw on the seasonal splendor of the Hilltop, where creative exploration extends beyond the studio to the great outdoors.

A Unique Approach to Art Making
Hackley’s Visual Arts program stands out for its emphasis on drawing as the foundation of artistic practice. Regardless of division or discipline, all students develop a deep appreciation for drawing as a key skill in their artistic journey. From Lower School through Upper School, students receive consistent training in essential techniques, materials and studio practices, empowering them to express their creativity with confidence. All visual arts faculty are working artists who actively and enthusiastically blend their professional studio practice into their classroom teaching.
