Our efforts center on encouraging volunteerism, fostering active participation and empowering advocacy, all while enriching education and reinforcing our mission and values. Through partnerships with local organizations, service-learning integrated into the curriculum, and events that bring students and families together, we prepare students to be informed, compassionate citizens.
Community & Leadership
Community engagement thrives across all grade levels. Hackley students commit their time and energy to taking care of our campus and supporting one another. Whether they are leading mission-focused clubs, serving as peer tutors or student mentors, or taking on leadership roles, our students embody the belief in contributing to something greater than themselves.

Meaningful and Collaborative Partnerships
We build external collaborations with intention — engaging in thoughtful conversations to align our values, assess Hackley’s ability to support an organization’s needs, and identify meaningful opportunities for our students. These partnerships often grow into long-standing commitments, with students and employees dedicated to making a lasting impact.
Hackley School collaborates with a wide range of organizations to enhance educational experiences, support our students, families and employees, and strengthen connections within the broader local community. These mutually beneficial partnerships begin with a rigorous vetting process through Hackley’s The Belonging Initiative, the Community Engagement team, and the Hudson Scholars program — three groups central to Hackley’s community engagement efforts.
Through these partnerships, Hackley connects with local businesses, nonprofits and community stakeholders to foster shared responsibility for the success and well-being of our community. In doing so, Hackley fulfills its mission “to learn from varying perspectives within our community and the world” and upholds its core value: “United, we help one another.”
These sustained relationships also enrich Hackley’s programming by bringing guest speakers, events and training sessions to campus. Additionally, Hackley often serves as a site for public benefit in support of its partner organizations’ missions.
Student Leadership and Purposeful Action
As students progress into the Upper School, they have the opportunity to lead. They organize fundraisers, host campus events and run club meetings, all with the guidance of faculty advisors. Student leadership at Hackley fosters initiative, collaboration and the confidence to pursue meaningful causes.

Student Clubs
Student clubs at Hackley play a vital role in enriching the educational experience, offering opportunities for students to explore their interests, develop leadership and organizational skills, and collaborate beyond the classroom. These student-led clubs unite individuals with shared passions, foster mutual support and embody Hackley’s core values, especially, “United, we help one another.”
Learning and Leading Together
Hudson Scholars is Hackley’s transformative, tuition-free enrichment program that empowers academically promising middle school students from Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. Focused on supporting low-income students, the program extends Hackley’s educational resources to foster academic achievement, character development and leadership skills.
The Belonging Initiative
Hackley's mission and core values instill a belief in our community that each student feels a deep sense of belonging. We aim to foster a community where all are respected, celebrated and supported. By valuing both our differences and shared humanity, we create an environment that encourages open dialogue, learning from diverse perspectives, and growth for everyone.
Together, we ensure that all students, families, alumni and employees feel they belong, knowing this ongoing journey is essential to our mission. Through efforts across all divisions, we honor and celebrate our community’s diversity.
