Hackley School is pleased to announce that longtime faculty member Melissa Boviero has been appointed the School’s next Director of the Middle School, following a broad and inclusive search process. She will step into the role on July 1, 2026.
Boviero has served Hackley for 15 years in a range of academic and student‑life leadership roles. As Science Department Chair and former Middle School Grade Dean, she brings a deep understanding of Hackley’s program and of the needs and experiences of Middle School students. Known for her thoughtful leadership and relationship-centered approach, she has earned the trust of students, families and colleagues across the Hilltop.
Her professional growth reflects a steady commitment to teaching and learning. Boviero completed the two‑year NYSAIS Emerging Leaders Institute and holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in science education, experience that has grounded her leadership in research, data and evidence-based decision‑making. Her work as an advisor and mentor highlights her belief in the power of strong relationships to inspire and support students.
Beyond her academic work, Boviero’s background as a regional boxing champion further exemplifies her determination and resilience. She earned the Southern States female boxing title in 2023 and the East Coast Women’s title in 2025.
The search process for this leadership role engaged more than 50 members of the Hackley community, including Middle School students, faculty, administrators, the Academic Committee and the Hackley Parents’ Association.
Head of School Charles Franklin expressed gratitude to all who participated in the search and thanked Associate Head of School Dr. Cyndy Jean for her leadership as Interim Middle School Director and for supporting Boviero’s transition.
Hackley congratulates Melissa Boviero on this significant appointment and looks forward to her leadership in the years ahead.
