Hackley Hosts Middle School Debate Tournament

Hackley School

On Saturday, March 7, Hackley School hosted the Middle School Debate Tournament. Hackley sent 10 debate teams and had several parent judges and volunteers who helped make the day a huge success.

Our teams included:

• Grade 6 Novice team: Theo D., Gus E., Jack R.
• Grade 6 Varsity teams: Maxwell A., Tucker L. and Neil S.; Marlowe H., Sophia J. and Masha Z.; Mia A., Alice D. and Sasha E.; Theodore B., David O. and Hudson S.; Charlotte G., Agron K. and Yena Q.; Marty G., Brilant M. and Jun Yang W.; and Liam D. and Alex H.
• Grades 7 and 8 team: Darragh C., Michael C. and Ryan L; and James C., Neil D. and Sophie P.

Five Hackley teams won three out of four rounds: Theo D., Gus E. and Jack R.; Mia A., Alice D. and Sasha E.;  Theodore B., David O. and Hudson S.; Darragh C., Michael C. and Ryan L.; and James C., Neil D. and Sophie P.

Hackley also had a few top speakers of the tournament. In the novice division, Jack R. placed tenth. In the varsity division, Tucker L. placed tenth, Neil S. placed 11th and Sasha E. placed 12th.

We are so proud of all of our debaters this season and look forward to the Championships on April 25, where several Hackley teams have qualified to compete.
