Akin Common Spruced Up With New Turf
The Hilltop’s beloved gathering space, Akin Common, received a facelift this summer.
Surrounded by the Center for the Creative Arts and Technology and the Lower, Middle and Upper School buildings, Akin Common has become the unofficial heart of the Hackley campus, where our community comes together to begin each year with Convocation, students gather daily to enjoy recess, outdoor classes are held, alumni gather for activities and to reconnect on Alumni Day, and where we end our year together at Commencement.
This August, the turf was removed and necessary maintenance was performed on the under drainage and supports that hold the turf in place. Cushion padding and brand new turf was then installed to make the space an even more comfortable and welcoming area for the Hackley community to come together. The Akin Common spruce up was supported in part by the Hackley Fund.
Akin Common is named in memory and in honor of the late Robert M. Akin III ’54, P ’83, ’90, GP ’12, ’14 an alum and 30-year trustee of the School, serving as President of the Board from 1980 to 1990.
