Three Teachers Named to Endowed Chairs

We are pleased to announce that Diane Remenar, Jared Fishman, and Keshena Richardson will be the new recipients of three faculty chairs, effective July 1, 2016. Recipients are nominated for this recognition by fellow faculty, who submit eloquent nominations on behalf of their colleagues. The Division Heads, Headmaster and Assistant Headmasters then read and vote on the submissions. Read on for details.
Diane Remenar is the new occupant of the Parents’ Chair, created by the HPA in celebration of Hackley’s Centennial. Held since 2014 by Lower School Science teacher Regina DiStefano, the Parents’ Chair is designed to rotate divisions, so the new Chair-holder is mandated to come from outside the Lower School. This spring, Ms Remenar will celebrate 20 years of outstanding Spanish teaching at Hackley. Incredibly professional, equally friendly and collaborative, and well-liked by her students, Diane has filled many roles at the school over the last two decades, including her excellent work directing boarding, coordinating Senior Projects, and enthusiastic management of an Upper School PE activity for the last several years.

Jared Fishman
is the new holder of the M.H. Davidson Family Chair in History. Created in 1987 through the generosity of former trustee and parent of alumni, Marvin Davidson, and his family, this chair recognizes excellence in teaching of History. Mr. Fishman came to Hackley in 2007, having worked at Rye School of Leadership and Harrison Central Schools, as well as Iona College and Sacred Heart High School of Yonkers. He quickly established himself has a brilliant, affable, and child-centered middle school educator. Along with his classroom excellence he has worked as a Dean, and also been a stalwart in the after-school ASK program. He succeeds Eliot Smith, who has held the chair since 2012.

Keshena Richardson is the new Headmaster’s Chair recipient. This chair, the gift of James Dryer ’24 and Rufus Dryer ’27 in 1989, is awarded to a teacher who exemplifies the best traditions of Hackley masters. Ms Richardson, who came to Hackley in 2009 from Hotchkiss School, earned her MS in Applied Statistics from Oxford University, and a BS from University of Queensland. She’s made her name at Hackley with her utterly dynamic teaching, as well as her friendliness and warm personality (Her two adorable children also add to her popularity). She succeeds fellow mathematician Diana Kaplan, who is completing four years in possession of the Headmaster’s Chair.

Please join us in congratulating Jared, Diane and Keshena for these well-deserved honors!
