LS Students Present at Lego League Jr. Tournament
On 1/28, a team of six Hackley 3rd and 4th graders, coached by Stefanie Fisher and Regina DiStefano, presented at a Lego League Junior tournament at Sleepy Hollow High School.
The team has been meeting each week since October to complete the FLL Creature Craze Challenge. The students were charged with researching honey bees and another animal that shares a honey bee's habitat. They chose the timber rattlesnake.
The team used videos, websites, books, and even Skyped with Nature Nick, an animal educator, to research the animals. They then created a "Show Me" poster about what the had learned and a Lego model of a deciduous forest habitat. They built a snake, programmed to open and close its jaws and rattle, as well as a tree with a bee and hive, a mouse, a lake, and lots of greenery.
They presented all of this in front of five other teams at the tournament and will talk about their experience at the March Character Education assembly about grit in March.
