Uber selects Dara Khosrowshahi '87 to be new CEO

After a long and public search, Uber has chosen Dara Khosrowshahi '87 to be the transportation company's new CEO.

Khosrowshahi comes from a strong background, having been CEO of the travel company Expedia since 2005. A board member for The New York Times since 2015, Khosrowshahi is known for bringing his perspective as an Iranian immigrant to the table, whether he is advising other organizations or running his own.

Those who have worked with Khosrowshahi see a positive future for Uber with him at the helm. Brad Gerstner, founder of Altimeter Capital, an investor in Uber as well as Expedia, says, “He’s a global travel executive — he understands competitive dynamics, geopolitical challenges, and the operating challenges of running a sprawling global travel company.” On his moral compass as a corporate leader, former colleague Shana Fisher comments, “People don’t get an excuse with Dara. They have to be good and good. Good and good. He doesn’t have tolerance for less than that.” See an additional New York Times feature on Uber's path to selecting Khosrowshahi here.
