Boys Soccer Battles to the End in 1-0 Loss to Masters
The Hackley Boys Varsity Soccer Team (#5) saw its season end Wednesday afternoon in the NYSAIS tournament in a hard fought battle against a talented Masters (#4) side.
It was a competitive match from the get go. Masters had defeated the Hornets quite handily earlier in the season but Hackely was much improved and Masters' recent results had been unimpressive.
The first half saw Hackley play some of its best soccer all season creating chances and defending well. The halftime score line was 0-0 with both teams poised for an excellent second half.
Masters came out with high energy and pace and was rewarded when they scored just 2 minutes into the second half. Masters continued to generate chances and had the Hornets on their heals for much of the half. As the game progressed on, Hackley started to generate some quality chances. In the final two minutes, Hackley pressed hard and very nearly got the equalizer as the ball bounced around the Masters penalty box before being cleared away. It was a heart-breakingly close opportunity but as the final whistle blew the Hornets' season ended.
Heads were held high and deservingly so. The team made amazing progress from the beginning of the season (when it started 0-3-1) to the end, and is well positioned to improve on their success this season in 2018.
Congratulations and many thanks to all the seniors who played such a vital role on the team this year.
Go Hack!
