Hackley Debate Duo Wins HSPDP Tournament on the Hilltop
On Saturday, Dec. 10, Hackley hosted the first High School Public Debate Program (HSPDP) regular season tournament of the year. Nine schools and 30 teams participated, debating such issues as the Biden Student Loan Forgiveness program, New York State’s policy banning the sale of gas-powered vehicles in 2035, and whether public transportation should be free.

25. Harper, Vivek, and Phoebe went 3-1, and Sam and Mason—debating as a two-person team—won the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. Harper was Hackley’s top speaker and the sixth ranked speaker overall. Also observing at the tournament were some dedicated MS debaters trying to pick up some new skills, including Ryan L. ’

Our next HSPDP tournament will take place on Feb. 11, 2023, at the Dwight School in Manhattan.
