Hackley Celebrates Milestone in Center Construction

This week, Hackley reached a key milestone in the construction of the Center for the Creative Arts and Technology as the last steel beam was placed on the building, completing the structural phase of the project. Members of the Hackley Community came together on Thursday, Feb. 1, to celebrate this milestone with a topping out ceremony.

“This building is going to be incredibly special for our community,” noted Hackley Head of School Charles Franklin. “Countless Hackley students are going to make the Center for the Creative Arts and Technology their home — making memories performing, drawing, using technology. It’s going to be a transformational space not only for the learning that takes place here but also for our community to be together and have those moments of shared experience. It will be a wonderful building for us for generations to come.”

“It’s our privilege as construction manager to continue our longstanding partnership with the Hackley School on this wonderful project, which will support the School community for many years to come,” added Bill Allan, Consigli Construction Co., Inc. Director of Operations – New York/Tri-State Region. “Consigli is grateful for the hard work and dedication of our project team and the skilled workers who have helped us reach this milestone, and we look forward to delivering another impactful project on this campus.”

In the week leading up to the event, Hackley faculty, staff and students were invited to stop by the Zetkov Center to sign the final steel beam and have their names become a permanent part of the new building. Those in attendance at the topping out ceremony watched as the Consigli Construction crew lifted the final steel beam into place and secured it atop the Center.

The ceremony also marked the beginning of the next phase of the project as the construction crews shift from building the site’s exterior to working on the interior features. Spanning an impressive 50,000 square feet, the Center for the Creative Arts and Technology is entirely dedicated to fostering imagination and creativity. Designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners, the building will bring together Hackley’s performing arts, visual arts and computer science departments in a dynamic learning landscape.
