History Teacher and Director of Debate Steve Fitzpatrick Wins 2024 Rice Award

Congratulations to history teacher and Director of Debate Steve Fitzpatrick, the recipient of this year’s Anton and Lydia Rice Inspirational Teaching Award!

The Rice Award is presented each year to a member of Hackley’s faculty who, in the estimation of the Senior Class, "has lit and sustained the fire of learning and inspiration, stimulated their intellectual curiosity, and inspired them in positive ways to seize the day and grasp the challenges they will face in the years ahead."

The award is given in memory of Anton and Lydia Rice, parents of Anton H. Rice III ’56, Donald Sands Rice ’57, William Phipps Rice ’62, and John Reynolds Rice ’64. Anton H. Rice, Jr. served Hackley as a trustee and Lydia Sands Rice was an active member of the Hackley Parents’ Association. The Rice Award winner also serves as the faculty speaker at the year-end Senior Dinner, which was held on Monday, June 3.

The voting process involved asking each Senior to nominate two teachers for this award. The Class of 2024 responded by nominating 42 different teachers across all three divisions, a testament to the inspirational relationships Hackley teachers form with students on the Hilltop.
