Athletic Coach

Hackley School seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic Athletic Coach to guide and mentor middle school, junior varsity and varsity high school athletes in either field hockey, soccer, squash, softball, track and field.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character development in student-athletes.

  • Middle School Girls Squash
  • Middle School Track and Field
  • Middle School Softball
  • Track and Field 

Reporting Structure
As part of Hackley’s Athletics Department, the Athletic Coaches report to the Director of Athletics. 


Specific Responsibilities
The Athletic Coaches responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Coaching and Instruction: Lead practice sessions, focusing on skills, techniques, and strategies appropriate for middle school and JV levels. Provide feedback to improve performance and develop game plans. Inspire a passion for the sport and continuous improvement.
  • Player Development and Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model and ensure athlete safety. Teach sportsmanship, discipline, and respect. Support student-athletes in balancing academics and athletics.
  • Team Management: Organize and manage teams effectively. Maintain communication with students, parents, administration, and others. Coordinate with the Director of Athletics.
  • Logistical Support: Assist with team travel, uniforms, and scheduling in coordination with the Athletic Department. Attend required meetings or training. Help with equipment maintenance.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to school, and state regulations for safety, eligibility, and sportsmanship. Must have current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED and complete required safety courses like NFHS Concussion in Sports.
  • Time Commitment:
    • Varsity Positions: Monday - Friday. 3:45 - 5:45. Gamedays finish later. Occasional Saturday games.
    • JV Positions: Monday - Friday. 3:30 - 4:30. Gamedays finish later.
    • Middle School Positions: Monday - Thursday. 2:45 - 3:45. Gamedays finish later.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Prior coaching experience preferably in an independent private school at the Middle School JV, or Varsity level is strongly desired.
  • Strong understanding of the sport, including rules and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various individuals and motivate athletes.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and create a positive team environment.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, particularly in education or a related field.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required.
  • Must complete necessary coaching certifications, such as NFHS certifications.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet employment requirements for a school setting.
  • Availability for evening and weekend commitments, including travel for games.
  • Commitment to the school's values and promoting a positive team culture.

Salary and Benefits:

Coaching positions at Hackley carry a stipend depending on the level of the team and the experience of the coach.
