Anne Longley Named Upper School Head at Nightingale-Bamford

Following a nationwide search, The Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City has appointed Anne Longley, Hackley Upper School grade dean and French teacher, as Head of their Upper School, effective July 1, 2012. Anne came to Hackley in 2004, has taught French at both the Upper and Middle School levels, has advised numerous clubs and student activities, including community service, and served as an academic advisor.
Among her many accomplishments have been leading Hackley’s Casten trip to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, the first of Hackley’s service learning trips, and the mastery and implementation of the new AP French curriculum. In the fall of 2008, Anne took on the role of Dean for the Class of 2012, and has been the steady partner, guide and mentor to our current senior class since their earliest Upper School days. Beginning last spring, she has led the creation and launch of the new Senior Projects program.

A 20-year teaching veteran with experience in both secondary and collegiate education, Anne earned her MA and PhD in French literature from Washington University, and her MEd in foreign language instruction from the University of Georgia. While we will miss Anne’s daily presence among us, we are proud and excited for her in her new opportunity at Nightingale-Bamford. The product of all-women’s education herself, Anne has been a wonderful leader and example to Hackley girls, and will be a great asset to her new school community. Please join us in congratulating Anne and wishing her all the best in her new position.
