April Athletics Highlights: Some Impressive Results
The month of April on the Hilltop has turned out to be one of the best on records for some of our athletic teams. Not only are the majority of the programs competitive but they sit on or near the top in league standings.
The month of April on the Hilltop has turned out to be one of the best on records for some of our athletic teams. Not only are the majority of the programs competitive but they sit on or near the top in league standings.
The Boys’ Varsity Tennis program has a 6-6 record with all 6 of their wins coming in the month of April. The team which consists primarily of underclassmen has taken a huge leap forward and have been in every match they have played.
The Girls’ golf team continues to improve and started the season 4-0 against perennial powers in the Fairchester league. There has been a marked improvement in the mental and physical parts to the game which has resulted in the wins. This is a first for coach Catalano winning four consecutive matches.
The Baseball team has made huge leaps from the beginning of the season winning 6 of their last 8 contests. The coaches and athletes have come to enjoy their home field advantage and plan on taking this winning tradition straight into the playoffs.
The Girls’ lacrosse team is currently undefeated in league play with powerhouse Riverdale as upcoming contests. Their one loss on the season thus far is to state power Rye High School who is playing a national level schedule. Trish Gorman, one of our key offensive threats recently set a new Hackey scoring record with her 200th goal.
The Boys’ Lacrosse team has also been in command of their league contests thus far this year. They are currently undefeated in league play with their only loss coming to Mountain Vista High School in Colorado.
The Boys’ Golf team is currently in contention for the Ivy League title with one league loss on the season. They recently beat Horace Mann in league play which has put them in a position for the league title. Matches against Horace Mann and Fieldston to end the season will determine the league champ.
The Track and Field program continues to be a dominant force in the area. The boys’ team recently competed at the Somers invitational placing 2nd in the team standings behind Section One power, Mt. Vernon, a school with eight time the enrollment of Hackley’s Upper School. Hackley is clearly the best small school team in the area and plans on defending their Ivy and NYSAIS team crowns.
The softball team has made a comeback winning two of their last three. Jillian Dressler and the team have significantly improved throughout the season. -- Jason Edwards, Athletics Director (
