About Charles Franklin

Charles Franklin joined Hackley as Head of School in July 2023. Throughout his career in education, Mr. Franklin has focused on building community and creating opportunities for students and faculty.

Prior to Hackley, Mr. Franklin served for six years as Assistant Head of School at Landon School, an independent school located in Bethesda, Maryland. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the school’s curriculum, faculty hiring, professional development and evaluation program. Prior to Landon, Mr. Franklin was the Director of Academics and Upper School Co-Head at the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland. After graduating college, he worked at Lawrence Academy as a history teacher, coach and dorm parent, eventually becoming the dean of students. 

In addition to his leadership roles, Mr. Franklin taught numerous history courses, was a varsity girls’ soccer head coach, coached boys’ basketball and co-ed golf, and was an advisor. Mr. Franklin attended Amherst College, where he majored in history and played both soccer and golf. He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from the Johns Hopkins School of Education. 

Mr. Franklin and his wife, Haley, live in Gage House with their three daughters: Connelly, Tate and Charlie.
