Once Upon a Time...
...a second grade class at Hackley embarked on an exciting new unit of study--fairy tales! 2F began by learning about the Brothers Grimm and read several of the original Grimm fairy tales.
Students were asked to think critically about the common themes present in these stories, and to look closely at gender stereotypes within the texts. After carefully analyzing these tales, 2F students compared and contrasted them to modern fairy tales. The class astutely noticed how modern writers could change the way males and females were portrayed in fairy tales. The students then set out on an adventure to write their very own modern day fairy tale and celebrated with a royal publishing party, fit for a king and queen!
