First Graders Publish Their Research
During their unit on nonfiction, first graders were engaged in a cross curricular animal research project. Choosing an animal whose habitat includes our own Hackley campus, the students conducted research using books, information sheets prepared by Upper School students, and the Pebble Go database. The students learned to record information using “key words.” After several days of research in Library, Science and the classroom, they reviewed all the information gathered, and transcribed it into sentences and typed it onto a Google document. They created a visual habitat using KidPix during Technology, and created realistic sketches with water color during Art.
The reports were shared proudly with faculty and students during a publishing party. Mrs. Reynolds and Miss Mwakitawa appreciate the enthusiastic participation of so many other instructors, which resulted in an authentic and fun research project for the first grade students.
