2017 Forbes Lecture: Transformative Impact of Design
Michael Bierut, father of three Hackley alumni (Liz ’04, Drew ’08, and Martha ’11), returned to the Hilltop to present this year's Forbes Lecture. An acclaimed graphics designer and partner in the New York design firm, Pentagram, Mr. Bierut spoke to Hackley Upper School students about the ways graphics design affects our lives in surprising and, often, transformative ways.
Hackley's Forbes Lecture was established in 1989 by Malcolm S. Forbes '37 in honor of his brother Bruce, Hackley Class of 1935. Speakers have included Claude Canizares '63, Steve Forbes, Rabbi Bradley Hirschfield, Joe Klein '64, William Kristol, Ralph Nader, Barack Obama, Paul Robeson, Jr., Henry Wendt '51, and Howard Zinn.
