Welcoming Round Square Delegates!
On Thursday, April 20, Hackley will welcome 72 Middle School student delegates and 32 teachers from fellow Round Square schools around the world for the 2017 Round Square Conference of the Americas, seven days of celebrating connections across cultures.
This event, more than a year in the planning, presents a unique opportunity for our students to explore the essential element of Hackley’s mission: “to learn from the varying perspectives and backgrounds in our community and the world.”
The conference theme is “Exploring Democracy in the Big Apple” Visiting students will live with Hackley host families and spend most of their time taking part in a wide array of adventures in New York City, beginning and ending each day with gatherings on the Hackley campus. Twenty one Upper School students will serve as “baraza” group leaders. They will work with the delegates each evening to discuss what they have seen and heard, and the rest of the campus community will surely feel the buzz of excitement with so many new faces around!
We are especially grateful to the HPA and to all the host families who are making this extraordinary event possible, and we hope the entire community enjoys this special opportunity to extend our “Enter here to be and find a friend” welcome to young people from around the world.
