Meet our Fuzzy Friends
It’s a busy time of year in the biology classrooms! After 28 long days of development in the incubator, our ducklings finally hatched. Our 12 eggs arrived from California in a box with special tape labeled, “Fragile. Eggs Inside.” Read on....
Our incubator kept the 12 eggs rotating regularly at a temperature of 99.5 Fahrenheit, and 55% humidity. A 40% hatch rate is considered good when it comes to incubated duck eggs, but we welcomed 12 healthy ducklings between late night Sunday and early Tuesday morning. Our classroom has been full of children from grades K-12 – holding ducks, naming ducks, and putting ducks in shirt pockets. On Friday, 5/5, the ducklings planned to go swimming for the first time! Feel free to stop by Science 117 and meet our 12 fuzzy friends.
