Strong Finish to a Great Spring Season

On Wednesday, May 24, Hackley Girls and Boys Lacrosse and Track & Field teams competed for NYSAIS championships, and Hackley Boys Golf competed for NYSAIS honors on Thursday, May 25, bringing this successful Hackley season to a close.
The Boys' Track & Field team sealed its 9th consecutive NYSAIS championship with a win in the 4x400 Relay, the last event of the day, surging back from a 5.5 point deficit to win the championships by .5 points over Rye Country Day School.

Amin Mustefa '17 (long jump, triple jump), Onye Ohia ’18 (200, 400 meters and 4x400 relay) and Jordan Schwartz ’18 (pole vault) took home championships for Hackley, bringing in over 50 points for the team. The 4x400 meter team (Onye Ohia, Craig Johnson ’17, Will Ballentine ’17 and Tahryam Toure ’20) set a new NYSAIS record with a time of 3:25.05 This was, however, a true team effort, with many Hackley athletes finishing in the top 10 to score valuable points for the victory.

Hackley Boys' Golf competed at Sunningdale Country Club for the NYSAIS championship on a rainy day presenting adverse conditions, and pulled everything together at the right time to finish two strokes ahead of Rye Country Day to win their first NYSAIS title. The team went undefeated for the first time in recent history, dominating most teams with a very solid line up. Congratulations to the team for an outstanding season.

The Girls' Track & Field team took second behind a very good Poly Prep team. Ivie Uzamere ’17 took home championships in the shot put and discus. Her discus throw of 108’ is a new NYSAIS record. Luisa Stalman ’17 broke her own Hackley 400 meter record, running a time of 57.4. In addition, the 4x400 meter team (Luisa Stalman ’17, Hannah Urken ’17, Ismene Germanakos ’18 and Princess Ohia ’20) won in convincing fashion.

Hackley Girls' Varsity Lacrosse team concluded its epic run yesterday, as the team played a fantastic game that ended in a 16-13 loss to Holy Child. The team showed true resilience throughout the game, as well as the character and composure that sets this team in a class of its own.

Hackley Boys' Varsity Lacrosse fought through an exciting double overtime game, ultimatley losing 7-6 to Rye Country Day. Our athletes played excellent defense, holding a very powerful RCDS team to just two goals in the first three quarters. In true Hackley form, the boys kept their heads high and showed us why being an athlete on the Hilltop is so special.

Seven Hackley teams earned entrance to NYSAIS competition this season, including Softball, which competed in the first round of the tournament vs. Poly Prep, and Baseball, which lost 5-4 to Horace Mann in the semi-final round.

Congratulations to all our athletes and coaches for their outstanding performances this spring.
