Hackley Baseball 2017
After a slow start, Hackley Baseball delivered an impressive season that continued right through to the semi-final round of the NYSAIS championship.
Relying mainly on the strong work of senior pitcher Ryan Smith ’17 on the mound and hitting from sophomore Jason Mark and senior Christopher Wahrhaftig, the team grinded its way through the first half of the season. Even though the Hornets were 3-4 through their first half of the Ivy League schedule, the four loses were by a combined five runs. The second half of the season was a stark difference. The bats came alive with the reemergence of senior Sam Rinzler. Coupled with the evolution of Christopher O'Sullivan ’18 and Sam Hough ’18 as valuable assets on the mound, Hackley rolled to a 6-1 record. After beating Collegiate 6-0 in the first round of the NYSAIS playoffs, the team fell to Horace Mann 4-5 in the semi-final game.
