Go Forth and Shine Light into the Dark Places
At the 2017 Senior Dinner, physics teacher Bill McLay talked about the importance of bringing understanding into the world, with an homage to former Hackley English Department Chair, Arthur Naething.
Mr. McLay said, "Everyone at Hackley knows the words that former English teacher Arthur Naething would to tell his students at the end of each of his classes, “Go forth and spread beauty and light.” It was a way of reminding his students that they should take who they are out into the world and make it a better place. I have always liked that the word “light” appears in his statement. With that, I would like to leave you, the Class of 2017, with my version of Naething’s words, my wish, and the meaning of life: Go Forth and Shine Light into the Dark Places."
