Mark Green Gallery Show
Upper School Art teacher Mark Green's show of his latest paintings, "You Remember," which opened on September 6, runs through September 29 at the Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia, PA.
Several Hackley colleagues made it down to celebrate the opening. Advance word on the show reported:
Like most of us, Mark Green begins at home and finds his way. His paintings of homes and houses shift between nostalgia and evocative strangeness, the result of beginning works with a clear intention but an intention that changes and responds to the painting as it is created. These paintings dance and flicker through his process as he seems to be patiently chasing fast and fleeting memories and following new realities as associations arise.
Through his atmospheric and formal use of color combined with his selective use of focus and drawing, Green's paintings are exquisite images with a universal subject and beautiful materials. For all his virtuosity, the works vitality stems from the artist's discovery of formal narratives yielding images where mood, color, and atmosphere emerge from his initially chosen imagery. In their flirtation with recognition and the unexpected, his works are both natural and surreal.
