Hackley Hosts Visitors from Tamagawa School

On October 20, 28 students and three chaperones from Tamagawa School in Japan visited Hackley as part of our Round Square. This is the third consecutive year that Tamagawa students have visited Hackley. In past years, a Hackley student has gone to Tamagawa as an exchange student.
The partnership was forged in part with the help of Hackley alumnus Koichi Itoh ’59, who came to Hackley from Japan as a seven-day boarder in the 1950s. Speaking not a word of English when he arrived, he was Valedictorian of his class and received the Parker Cup, given each year to the student who best represents the Hackley ideal. A former Hackley Trustee and current Advisory Trustee, Mr. Itoh has been instrumental in helping support Hackley’s Global Education program, including two Casten trips to Japan. Mr. Itoh returns to Hackley this weekend for Alumni Day.
