Discovery on Hackley's Trails
If you’ve visited Hackley’s nature trails in the past few weeks, you might have noticed some new additions along the path. The small, black plaques dotting the trails are the fruits of the Trail Story project, brought to you by the Trail Story iGrant Committee (Tessa Johnson, Regina DiStefano, Mary Murray-Jones, and Emma Olsen) and Hackley students of all ages.
Each plaque identifies a plant or animal found on Hackley’s nature trails, and by scanning the QR code, you can hear AFER students share ecology and fun facts, or poems and stories from the 1st and 4th graders of the Lower School. (Not all QR codes have audio links at this point, but all will by the end of the year.) You can also access identification tips through photo galleries, taken and curated by Hackley students via the online flora database, PlantMap.
All you need to start enjoying Trail Story is your phone or iPad. New plaques and stories are being added all the time, and we’re looking forward to sharing more work from more classes as the year continues. If you would be interested in contributing to this project, please let
Tessa Johnson know.
