MS Debate Round-Up
On Saturday, November 4th, Hackley MS debate sent 25 students to debate at two separate locations – the Empire Division of the New York Debate League was hosted by Hackley and the Big Apple Division was hosted by the British International School of New York (BISNY).
Seven teams of Hackley 6th, 7th, and 8th graders competed at Hackley, earning two separate school awards. Notable performances included a first time 8th grade team of Maya M., Maymay S., and Catherine L. who went 4-1 in their initial tournament. Catherine also earned the second place speaker overall out of over 80 debaters, an impressive accomplishment. Other top speakers from Hackley included Jad B., Maya M., Maymay S., and Max C. Kylie and Jad also earned a top team award.
Overall, this was a great opening event for our MS debate team.
A big thanks to all the parents and HS judges for helping out as well as to Mr. Maisonet for coaching the team at BISNY.

At BISNY, our two combined 7th and 8th grade teams won all of their debates for a perfect 8-0 record. Arushi C., Alex C., and Amy K. won the tournament and Zara Y., Sid S., and Zach Y. came in second. All six debaters earned speaker awards and Amy K. took home the gavel as the top overall speaker for the day.
Overall, this was a great opening event for our MS debate team.

Our next set of MS debate tournaments will be on December 2nd at two separate locations – the West End Secondary School and Nest +m.
