Hackley Hosts NYSAIS Educator Workshop

On Thursday, November 16th, Hackley hosted 40 teachers from all over NY for a conference on using games and simulations in the classroom, to outstanding results. Teachers had the opportunity to play a number of tried and tested games, hear presentations on the benefits of games as a form of pedagogy, and network with like-minded educators.
A huge thank you to Jared Fishman, who led the workshop based on his work using games and simulation in the History classroom inspired the workship, and to Steve Fitzpatrick, Erica Jablon, and Steele Sternberg for running a number of different games that they have developed and modified for use in their courses.

It is clear that Hackley has tapped into a topic that is both exciting and thought provoking amongst the teaching community, and is at the forefront of this particular movement. Given that three quarters of the participants were completely new to gaming, there is much room for growth and continued conversations about these teaching practices.
