Athletes of the Week – Week of Sept. 22
Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.
Cross Country: Caitlin Morrow ’27
Caitlin ran a personal best to lead the girls’ cross country team to victory at the Suffern Invitational on Sept. 20. Her time of 19:51 on the 5k course was first on the team and third overall in the race, helping the Hornets secure a statement win over several larger schools in Class A and Class B.
Cross Country: Elizabeth Spencer ’28
Elizabeth ran a personal best of 21:44 at the Suffern Invitational on Sept. 20, helping the girls’ cross country team to a big win. She dropped more than 2.5 minutes off her time at last week’s Somers Invitational and 42 seconds off her previous cross country personal record.
Football: Auggie Teacher ’27
Auggie had five receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns in a key victory over Rye Country Day School last week. On defense, he locked down Rye’s best wide receiver at the corner back position and had some big tackles at key moments in the game.
Girls’ Tennis: Linnéa Boettner ’26
Linnea played out of position against a good Poly Prep player last week. She battled back after being down in the match 1-0 to win 2-1. Her strong play balancing smart shot selection and pure determination was an awesome example of who she is and why she is a captain on the team.
Field Hockey: Brigid Doherty ’27
This defenseman has been a major force behind multiple shutouts this season. She was vital in a 2-0 victory over NYSAIS Champs Fieldston, where she helped hold them scoreless on 12 defensive corners on the day.
Boys’ Soccer: Mateo Arencibia ’26
Mateo scored two of the three goals in an overtime victory for the Hornets at Sting. This captain has been a major reason the team only has one loss on the season thus far.
Girls’ Soccer: Gabriella Petriello ’26
This senior captain had an exceptional game against Fieldston last week. In a 6-0 win, Gabby scored four goals and assisted on the other two. In addition to this incredible accomplishment, she surpassed 40 career goals and 100 career points, a feat that is rare in the soccer world.
