“Where I’m From” Poetry Project

Mrs. Louros’ 5th grade English students were inspired by George Ella Lyon’s well-known poem, “Where I’m From,” and wrote their own versions of the poem to represent the story of who they are and where they are from. Read on.
Students created posters with beautiful visuals to accompany their writings. These included creative drawings, photographs, paintings, and other physical symbols to show their identities, hobbies and interests, cultures, religions, family traditions, memories, and other aspects of their personal lives. It was great for students to have a creative and safe outlet to showcase who they are, and they greatly enjoyed learning more about each other through this poetry project!
