JOYFUL with Ingrid Fetell Lee '98

On April 24th, Hackley hosted Joyful: An Evening with Author and Designer Ingrid Fetell Lee ‘98 - A conversation about the surprising ways that ordinary objects influence our joy and wellbeing, and how we can all find more joy in daily life through design. The event took place at DC Moore Gallery with 30 alumni and parents in attendance.
Wil Lobko, Hackley English Department, hosted the event and a book signing followed the event, along with copies of Ingrid Fetell Lee’s new book, Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness, which explores ways the spaces we inhabit and the objects with which we interact affect our health and happiness, were available for purchase.

In her new book, Ingrid explores how the seemingly mundane spaces and objects we interact with every day have surprising and powerful effects on our mood. Drawing on insights from neuroscience and psychology, she explains why one setting makes us feel anxious or competitive, while another fosters acceptance and delight -- and, most importantly, she reveals how we can harness the power of our surroundings to live fuller, healthier, and truly joyful lives.

Ingrid Fetell Lee is a Brooklyn-based designer and writer whose work focuses on the way that design affects our health and happiness. As founder of The Aesthetics of Joy and in her role as IDEO fellow, she empowers people to find more joy in daily life through design.
