Hackley Cross Country Excels in 2018

The Hackley Cross-Country Team had another great season, with 54 dedicated runners contributing to the team's succcess and exceptional leadership from captains Olivia Curran, Anastasia Popova, William Crainer, and Thomas Dewey.
The racing season kicked off on Saturday, September 8th at the Somers Big Red Invitational and included additional meets at Bowdoin Park, Brewster and the Brown Northeast Invitational at Goddard State Park in Warwick, Rhode Island.

The Ivy League Championships were held on Friday, October 26 on the 2.5 mile course at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The true measure of Hackley’s depth was on display as the JV boys’ and girls’ each earned first place team honors. The varsity teams each received 3rd place overall and several individuals earned All-League recognition including: Jonah Gorevic ’21 (1st team), Brendan DiStefano ’22 (2nd team), Olivia Curran (1st team), Eve Spencer ’22 (1st team), and Frances Schaeffler ’19 (2nd team).

Both cross-country teams had strong finishes at their NYSAIS 5K races on November 4th at Van Cortland Park. The boys’ earned third place while the girls’ team placed fourth.

Finally, Olivia Curran and Jonah Gorevic earned individual spots to represent Hackley and NYSAIS at the NY Federation Championships on November 17th at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls due to their 2nd and 5th place finishes respectively at NYSAIS.
