Lessons in History and Collaboration

During their Colonial unit, Mrs. Lopez’s fourth grade students learned about colonial life through engaging in activities that colonists experienced, such as having a tea party where they cross-stitched, made rag dolls, hornbooks, and quills.
They also made colonial silhouettes, and dressed up as New England colonists. The fourth grade also visited Van Cortlandt Manor and learned about colonial life through primary source documents, artifacts, and practicing trades, such as making biscuits. On the last day of their colonial studies, 4L students had a special visitor, Mr. Wirtz, who helped them churn butter and make a quilt during their Colonial Work Day! The beautiful pinwheel quilt they collaboratively created is displayed on the 4L bulletin board.
