Fall 2019 Field Hockey

The Varsity Field Hockey team had another successful season. Defending its undefeated Ivy League Championship (for the 6th straight season), the team did not even give up a goal in the Ivy League.
The team also made a strong run in the NYSAIS tournament. Earning the two seed and a bye in the first round, the team had a strong win in the semi-final game vs. Chapin to get the chance to play on Championship Sunday. This was the 7th straight year that the team earned the chance to play in the NYSAIS Championship, and though we did not end the game victorious, there is no doubt that we played like champions.

This year’s team was led by senior captain and goalie Jenny Canoni. Jenny ends her Hackley career with a total of 783 saves. She has a career save percentage of .896% and a goals against average of 1.217 goals per game. This sets the record in all categories for goalies at Hackley. This year she tallied 237 saves and let up only 19 goals; a GAA of 1.072. On the offensive side of the field, junior Lara Schechter led the team in goals with 16, while sophomore Colin Ives led the team in assists with 14. Other standout players include senior captain and defender Lauren Ahern, junior forward Jessie Bard and junior defender Bella Monteleone.

What characterized this team above all else, however, was the way that they grew together over the course of the season. As evidenced in their success at the end of the season (and the tears that flowed after the final whistle of the final game), this team’s success came from their hard work and intensity, but also from their heart. The team ended the season with a 12-5-1 record.

There is no doubt that all of the seniors; Jenny, Lauren, Jacqueline Delia and Audrey Lee, will be greatly missed, not only for their exceptional play, but for their strong leadership and their passion.
