ISRP Students Learn about Science Innovation

The Hackley Independent Research Program was happy host Dr. Ianchulev (P’ 26) on Friday, January 17, 2020. Dr. Ianchulev gave an inspiring talk on innovation, and the various projects and products that he has founded since his residency.

These technologies have transformed the vision health care and have allowed him to better the lives not just his patients, but millions of people across the globe. Afterward, one student reflected that “I learned that many people/entrepreneurs that push us into the future applied existing techniques and methodology on fields that no one thought about. Based on his presentation, I've developed a new meaning for innovation: knowing where to look. The coolest project in my impression is the eye-spray device they are developing, a classic example of applying existing techniques to a new field, and innovation.”

Another student commented about Dr. Ianchulev’s inventions because “it played at the versatility of your career as a science researcher. This gave me more confidence to try out new things and help me to know that I am not locked into doing one single thing and that I have the option to seek new goals and interests.”

We are grateful to Dr. Ianchulev for coming in to speak to our students about his experiences as a medical professional, innovator and entrepreneur.

All alumni/parents with present or past experiences in scientific research have a standing invitation to back and visit the Independent Research Program. Our future scientists love hearing your stories, and these talks are formative to their careers. If you are interested, please reach out to Dr. Andrew Ying.
