George Yancopoulos Visits Hackley IRP

George Yancopoulos MD, PhD, (P ’12, ’14, ’16, ’18) Co-founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, did an inspiring Zoom call  with Dr. Ying’s Independent Research Program (IRP) students regarding Regeneron’s work on COVID-19 treatments.

Sophomore Daniel Zhang reflected that it was “absolutely inspiring to hear such passion and belief in science and its ability to save the world.  I’m glad to be doing science research because of this.”

Dr. Yancopoulos has been a great friend to Hackley’s IRP and promoting science education.  Earlier this year, he facilitated a tour of Regeneron for IRP students and subsequently met with them at Hackley.  He has also delivered a Szabo Lecture, served as a Lower School STEM Night keynote speaker, and has mentored Hackley alumni in connection with the school’s Networking Initiative.  His engagement with young scientists is truly inspirational and sets the example for his company.  Regeneron has become title sponsor of the two largest and most prestigious science prizes for high school students (Science Talent Search and ISEF).  Locally, the company also hosts a fantastic high school Summer Research Mentorship Program, which two of our sophomores have been accepted for this summer.  Dr. Yancopoulos and Regeneron are deeply committed to science education, and the future is brighter for it.
