MS Debate Team Nabs Most Total Wins in Tournament

Hackley’s Middle School debate team had their best showing in several years at the final regular season MS debate tournament of the academic year at the Dalton School on Saturday, March 4!

Hackley won first place in both the total number of wins (19) and highest winning percentage (67%), earning both the Tournament and School Awards.

In addition, the Hackley eighth grade team, Zach W., Shreyas K., and Rani B., won the event as the top team in the tournament with an undefeated record. Hackley also had five of the top 10 teams, with four other Hackley eighth grade teams finishing at 3-1. Three Hackley debaters were ranked among the top 10 speakers, with eighth graders Shreyas K. taking 7th place, Jonah G. in 5th place, and Zach W. named the top speaker in the event, which earned him the gavel. It was a terrific day for the whole team.

Rounding out the teams were eighth graders Valentina C., Isabella Z., Sophie K., Zack R., Theodore A., Teddy W., David G., Lila S., Kiki J., Nico K., Brian F., Avish C., and Max M.; seventh graders Mia S. and Kubrick C.; sixth grader Rohan M.; and fifth grader Ryan L.

Also in attendance, and deserving of huge thanks, were four Upper School judges Arushi Chandra ’23, Nina Zeltser ’25, Angela Croce ’25, and Juno Yang ’26.

The Middle School debate championship will be hosted at Hackley on Saturday, April 29.
