Demetra Yancopoulos ’18 achieves High School All American status

Hackley sophomore Demetra Yancopoulos ventured into Fargo North Dakota the weekend of July 16-17 for the Women's Freestyle National Wrestling Tournament. This tournament brings about the toughest and largest field of women's wrestlers assembled under one roof in the United States. Demetra put together an amazing tournament were her heart, poise and wrestling acumen.
On the way to her eighth place finish and her first All American honor she beat three other All Americans, including two wins over girls ranking high in the "future Olympian" point standings. What makes this feat all the more impressive is that while all of these wrestlers have been training year round in anticipation for this tournament, Demetra has only been able to train for two and a half months because she sustained a devastating ACL injury in October. The goal that most wrestlers strive a life time for and often come up short attaining, Demetra has been able to accomplish in only 12 months of competitive wrestling on the mat. Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment Demetra.
