BVS Falls to Poly Prep on the Road
The Hackley BVS Team lost another close game on the road to conference foe Brooklyn Poly Prep Wednesday night.
It was another disappointing loss this season as the team gets into the middle of its challenging schedule. Poly is always a tough place to get a positive result with its large field and long bus ride. Nevertheless the first half saw the Hornets out play Poly and create several good chance, but had to settle for a 0-0 tie at the half.
The second half Poly took over possession dominance but were not very dangerous until they broke through the back line and netted the opening goal of the game 18 minutes into the second half. The lead was short lived as the Hornets converted a free kick from senior Ian Jacobson that was flicked on by junior Matt Braver. The Poly goalie got his finger tips on the ball but junior Andrew Tang was "Johnny on the Spot" and banged in the rebound.
Poly continued to press and got its second goal of the game on a long throw-in that was headed far post for a 2-1 Poly lead. It proved to be the game winner. It was a stinging blow since we knew Poly was capable of the long throw-in and the team had prepared to defend these set pieces days prior to the game.
It was a long ride home knowing the team could easily have secured a win had they converted early chances, defended more aggressively and attacked the ball in the air with more conviction. Things the coaching staff will continue to work on improving.
Next week will be a big week for the team as they play host to both Fieldston Wednesday Oct. 4 and Dalton Friday Oct. 6th.
