HGVT Loses Close Match to HM

On Friday, HGVT played a strong team in Horace Mann, and although they played well, the girls came up short and lost 1-4. Fiona, facing an extremely tough opponent, gave it her all and had some great points during her match. At second singles, Audrey had some smart, long rallies, and she really made her opponent work hard. Samantha, at third singles, played a very close match; she battled hard and played smart, but lost in 2 close sets. Our first doubles team of Maggie and Maya also played very well against a strong HM team. Their great serving and smart play got them to a third set, but the Horace Mann team came away with the victory. Sadie and Alex played second doubles together and did a really nice job! With strong ground strokes and solid net play, they emerged with a two set victory! Sam, Natalie, and Leah each demonstrated smart strategy in their matches, as they forced HM to work super hard. Unfortunately, they came up just short in their effort. Although the overall result did not end up the way we would have liked it, the Hackley girls put up a good fight against a strong team. The match was close and the difference between a win and loss was small. Next time we play them, hopefully we can get the win!!
