Seniors of the Week: 11/6/20
The Athletics department celebrates the Class of 2021 through a Seniors of the Week series honoring Hackley’s graduating athletes.
Hannah Ostfield '21 - Cross Country
The XC program has greatly benefitted from Hannah’s willingness to take a risk and try a new sport. Each day, Hannah brings an infectious energy, optimism, and work ethic to the team. Her contributions resulted in her individual development as an endurance athlete, and the development and experience of her teammates. Hannah has established herself as one of her teammates biggest supporters, always cheering on her fellow runners, even mid workout!
Ishaan Ratliff '21 - Cross Country
Ishaan is a four year cross country runner whose consistent effort has yielded noticeable improvement. Throughout his career, Ishaan’s positive attitude has not just been beneficial for him, but he has encouraged his teammates to always give it their all whether in a workout or race. Ishaan’s great team spirit, finish kick and wonderful work ethic will be missed.
Will Rifkin '21 - (Captain) Cross Country
Will Rifkin is a four year member of the cross country team. Not only has he run the NYSAIS Cross Country Championships since his freshman year, but he has been a leader on and off the trails for Hackley’s best team ever. The fact that his teammates voted him captain speaks volumes as he is respected and treats others in kind. Will has given unreserved effort throughout his workouts and races over the last four years.
Isabella Monteleone '21 - (Captain) Field Hockey
Bella is a four year varsity player who is dominant on the field and a large part of the success the team has had during her tenure. As a defender, she is our anchor--running the defense and keeping her teammates calm, while being a force on the field. Bella was an All-League honoree as a junior, and there is no doubt that she would have had another amazing year. Though in 9th grade, Bella asserted that she “was not a field hockey player,” her outstanding play and the fact that she was voted captain by her teammates illustrates just the opposite. Bella’s dedication, commitment, teamwork and spirit make her an incredible role model and someone we are going to miss greatly next year!
Anna Sanzenbacher '21 - Field Hockey
Anna is a three-year varsity player who is incredibly hard working, versatile and consistent. No matter what position Anna plays--forward or midfield, she makes an impact on the field, and she is always willing and eager to play anywhere. Anna is also the model of dedication and focus--she comes to play every day, and she has been this way since she first stepped on the field as a 9th grader. Anna is an important leader on our team because she leads through her example. Anna’s hard work during both the season and the off-season illustrate this dedication; and her kindness and thoughtfulness and the kind of player and person that she is. We will miss her greatly next year!
Evan Lassiter '21 - (Captain) Football
Evan is a model of hard work and commitment to continued improvement. He loves the game, the work it demands, and encouraging his teammates to achieve their goals. Evan had a breakout junior year as the fullback in our offense and defensive end on our defense. His work off the field has allowed him to be one of the fastest, most powerful backs in our league.
JB Rosenthal '21 - (Captain) Boys’ Soccer
JB was a four-year varsity player with tremendous skill and craftiness. As a key cog in the team’s midfield, JB was linchpin between the defensive core and the offense. In addition to taking control of the midfield and making opponents look silly, he established a magical partnership with sophomore Dan Paridis with whom he sprung free for goals on a regular basis each game. With a big personality, flare for the dramatic and love of a good laugh, JB enjoys the game and his teammates as much as they enjoyed him. For his efforts, JB was recognized in 2019 with All-League honors.
Abbey Schiller '21 - Girls’ Soccer
Abbey began her girls’ soccer career for Hackley’s Girls’ Soccer Program her freshman year. Her tenacity, athleticism, and drive to be the best goalkeeper, translated to the softball field where she worked tirelessly throughout her time in the upper school and has committed to play collegiate softball! It was an absolute pleasure having Abbey join HGVS her senior season. She has such a great attitude and is an amazingly supportive teammate.
Audry Pizzalatto '21 - (Captain) Girls’ Tennis
Audrey has been an important part of HGVT for FIVE years! Joining as an 8th grader, she quickly made her presence felt, as she started at singles for us for most of her first year on the team. Over the course of her impressive career on HGVT, Audrey has been a model of consistency, both on the court and off. As a singles player, Audrey is smart and patient, and played number one for the team in their record second Ivy league championship and undefeated season last year. Off the court, Audrey works hard, strives to improve, and serves as a great role model to her teammates. As a captain this year, she continues to demonstrate the energy and team spirit that we’ve seen from her since 8th grade!
