Athletes of the Week – Week of Sept. 25
Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.
Girls’ Varsity Soccer: Gabriella Petriello ’26
HGVS scored three goals last week, and Gabriella contributed to all three with two goals and one assist, scoring the lone goal against Poly. Gabriella is a key part of the HGVS offense and a dominant force as a forward.
Girls’ Varsity Tennis: Linnéa Boettner ’26
Linnéa is playing a new position this year, third singles, and she had an absolutely amazing match at last week’s Sting. After losing the first set, she stepped up her game and battled back to win the second set. The third set tiebreaker, which is first to 10 (win by two) was one for the ages as she fought off five match points and went on to win 18-16! Linnéa's resilience, grit and determination were amazing to watch!
Girls’ Varsity Cross Country: Charlotte F. ’28
Charlotte had an amazing debut race last Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational. She was the 1st place finisher for Hackley, leading her team to a 7th place finish among some of the top teams in New York State. She covered the hilly and technical 5k course in a blistering fast time of 21:24, an average pace of 6:53 per mile. Charlotte has already proven to be an incredible asset to a fantastic group of runners!
Varsity Field Hockey: Kayce Park ’25
Kayce has been instrumental in the success of the field hockey team. In the game versus Riverdale, Kayce was responsible for two of the three goals scored in a 3-1 win. Her offensive prowess has made her the leading scorer for the Hornets this season.
