Athletes of the Week – Week of Oct. 9
Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.
Girls’ Soccer: Sarah Metcalfe ’24
Sarah has been a vitally important member of the soccer team this fall, starting in various positions to help the team succeed. Most recently, she scored the lone goal against Trinity, which also happened to be her first career goal for HGVS!
Football: Jack Yalmokas ’24
A captain on the football team, Jack has been the glue on the offensive line keeping the team together. A pillar to whom the coaches look, he is dominant in both run and pass blocking.
Field Hockey: Zora Teacher ’25
Zora scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over previously undefeated Fieldston this week. Her goal helped keep the Hornets in the running for an Ivy League Championship. Zora’s competitive play, athleticism and teamwork have been instrumental to the team’s success.
Cross Country: Jackson Beatty ’25
Jackson ran the race of his life last weekend at the Brewster Bear XC Classic. Despite muddy conditions, he ran 45 seconds faster than his previous 5k personal best. His time of 18:15, an average pace of 5:52 per mile, placed him 19th overall among some of Westchester’s top runners. Jackson’s placing was instrumental in team scoring, helping Hackley place first overall in the varsity race.
